Donald Trump or Joe Biden? These swing states will decide the US presidential election

Storytelling concept for an online article

When this article was published in 2020, Joe Biden was leading the polls but the election was all but decided. We show how some of the major swing states have voted in the past and analyse possible factors that will influence the outcome of the 2020 elections.

The article uses animation that is caused by scrolling to explain the concept of electoral votes and swing states to our Swiss readers. Then it shows the results of four past elections in Arizona, Texas, Ohio, and Florida. Finally, with the use of data visualisations, we looks at four factors that will influence the 2020 election in those states: a growing hispanic demographic, an aging demopgrahic, the Covid-pandemic, and surging unemployment rates.
