What are the chances that the war in Ukraine will end in a peace treaty? A look at previous conflicts shows reveals patterns

Data analysis, design and project lead for an animated, online article on how wars end

A victory on the battlefield or a contract at the negotiating table: data from conflict research provide clues as to how wars most often end. This article digs into a data set on wars, collected by the Uppsala Conflict Data Program. The data records armed conflicts between two parties from 1946 to 2020. Using an animated data visualization, the reader is guided through the different patterns and trends in the data, looking for answers to the question on how and when the war in Ukraine might end.
